Eurozone’s current account plunged into a €2 billion deficit in March 2022, a decline from a €16 billion surplus in the prior month.
- The current account surplus totaled €219 billion (1.8% of euro area GDP) in 12 months to March 2022, a decline from €294 billion (2.6%) a year ago.
- Euro area residents’ net acquisitions of non-eurozone portfolio investment securities amounted to €458B.
- Non-residents’ net acquisitions of euro area portfolio investment securities amounted to €170B in the year to March 2022.
Euro area residents posted net acquisitions of non-euro area assets totaling €325 billion in 12 months to March 2022, as their net incurrence of liabilities rose to €816B.
