European stocks showed a positive trend on Friday, with the Stoxx Europe 600 index finishing up 0.22% at 454.66. Notably, the French CAC 40 index added 0.62%, closing at 7,240.77, while the FTSE 100 index gained 0.49% to reach 7,478.19, and the German DAX increased by 0.14% to settle at 15,740.30.
Top Gainers
Among the constituents of the Stoxx Europe 600 index, Covestro AG, a basic materials/resources company, saw the largest increase on Friday, with shares rising by 7.8%. Similarly, the stocks of utilities firm Uniper SE and insurance company Ageas N.V. rose by 5.2% and 4.6%, respectively. Health care/life sciences company GN Store Nord A/S and electric utilities firm Oersted A/S also performed well, experiencing stock increases of 4.5% and 4.4%, respectively.
Top Losers
On the other hand, retail company THG PLC saw the largest drop among the constituents of the Stoxx Europe 600, with shares weakening by 6.8% on Friday. Technology firm TeamViewer SE and industrial goods company BELIMO Holding AG also experienced declines of 6.4% and 5.5%, respectively. Retail company Zalando SE and machinery company Wartsila Oyj recorded similar decreases of 5.1% each.
Currency and Commodity Movements
In currency markets, the pound GBPUSD showed a marginal increase of 0.02% against the dollar, while the euro EURUSD gained 0.13%.
Simultaneously, Brent crude UK:BRN00 witnessed a rise of 0.90%, reaching $90.73.
Bond Yields
The yield on the 10-year gilt BX:TMBMKGB-10Y fell by 0.94 basis points to 4.434%, while the yield on the German 10-year bund BX:TMBMKDE-10Y rose by 0.080 basis points to 2.61%.
