Annual inflation in the euro area remained fairly steady in April but quickened in the European Union.
- Eurostat’s harmonized index of consumer prices in the Eurozone jumped 7.4% in April on an annual basis, unchanged from the annual increase in March.
- In the entire European Union, annual inflation was 8.1%, increasing from 7.8% reported the prior month.
- On a monthly basis, prices increased by 0.6% in the Eurozone, easing from a 2.4% increase in March. Monthly inflation in the EU came in at 0.8% in April, decelerating from 2.4% in March.
The highest annual rates were reported in Estonia (19.1%), Lithuania (16.6%), and Czechia (13.2). The lowest annual rates were reported in France and Malta (both 5.4%) and Finland (5.8%).
