The eurozone’s GDP in the fourth quarter rose by 0.3% quarter on quarter from the initial value and is projected to increase by 0.3% from the initial quarter.
- In Q3 2021, GDP had expanded by 2.3% in the eurozone and by 2.2% in the EU.
- The eurozone GDP rose 4.6% YoY and by 4.8% in Q4 of 2021, after 3.9% in the euro area and 4.1% in the EU in the prior quarter.
- The number of people working in the euro area grew to nearly 161.8 million in Q4 of 2021, rising 0.5% on the third quarter and 2.1% up from a year earlier.
- The third quarterly increase lifted the eurozone employment total over the level reported in Q4 2019, just before the pandemic.
The increase signals that Europe’s economy handled the recent increase in inflections relatively well, with the eurozone economy expanding 0.3% in October-December.
