Eurozone’s investor sentiment kept falling in the fourth month of 2022, signaling the potential start of an economic recession.
- The gauge crashed to -18 in April from -7 in March compared to the expected fall to -9.2. The index reached its lowest level since July 2020.
- A current conditions index dropped to -5.5 in April from 7.8 posted in March. An expectations index plunged to -29.8 from -20.8, its lowest position since December 2011.
- The negative scores of both the situation and the expectations indexes signal that the economy is starting to contract. The Asian region is also stagnating.
- Germany will also struggle with an imminent recession. The situation index in Germany crashed by 14.8 to -4.8 points.
Globally, the declines are smaller, but the trend is the same. Both the situation and expectations continue to decline. No region can resist the negative trend.
