Ivanhoe Mines, a prominent Africa-focused Canadian mining company, is anticipating another year of production growth at its Kamoa-Kakula copper operation in Congo. The company recently reported an 18% increase in output in 2023.
Production Forecast
Based on various assumptions, including the completion and ramp-up of a new 5 million ton-a-year phase-three concentrator at the copper complex, Ivanhoe Mines projects that Kamoa-Kakula will produce between 440,000 and 490,000 metric tons of copper in concentrate in 2024. The company is pleased to announce that the concentrator is ahead of schedule for completion in the third quarter of this year.
Impressive Production Figures
In 2023, Kamoa-Kakula produced a total of 393,551 tons of copper, marking an 18% increase compared to the previous year. These figures align perfectly with the company’s initial guidance range of 390,000 to 430,000 tons.
Throughout the year, Kamoa-Kakula’s phase one and two concentrators effectively processed approximately 8.5 million tons of ore at an average feed grade of 5.2% copper. This resulted in the production of an impressive 824,382 dry tons of copper concentrate.
