J.B. Hunt Transport Services, a shipping company based in Lowell, Arkansas, has announced its plan to acquire 13 vehicles from electric truck manufacturer Nikola. The purchase includes three hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles, showcasing J.B. Hunt Transport’s commitment to sustainability.
Transitioning to Electric Power
As part of this deal, J.B. Hunt Transport’s subsidiary, J.B. Hunt Transport, will procure 10 heavy-duty battery-electric vehicles from Nikola, in addition to the three hydrogen-powered vehicles. The order is scheduled to be delivered next month.
Hydrogen-Powered Solution
To support these vehicles, Nikola’s HYLA subsidiary will supply both the hydrogen and the necessary infrastructure. These trucks will be stationed primarily in the Los Angeles area and Phoenix, which serves as the headquarters for Nikola. Additionally, they will be strategically placed along J.B. Hunt’s major shipping routes.
Commitment to Environmental Responsibility
J.B. Hunt is determined to reduce its carbon emission intensity by an impressive 32% by 2034, in comparison to emission levels in 2019. This purchase is a significant step towards achieving that goal. The company has already integrated electric trucks into its fleet this year, further solidifying its commitment to sustainability.
Positive Market Response
News of the acquisition has had a positive impact on Nikola’s stock price, with shares rising by 7.1% to $2.43 in pre-market trading.
