U.S. President Joe Biden’s signature project for huge new infrastructure investment received a major boost when leading Senate Democrats agreed on a $3.5 trillion plan.
- When announcing the agreement, Schumer stated that Republicans were not involved in the negotiation process. Only White House officials and Senate Budget Committee Democrats took part in the talks.
- The bipartisan infrastructure bill, amounting to $1.2 trillion, comprised $600 billion in new spending.
- The bill would fund the rebuilding of bridges, roads, and other traditional infrastructure, as well as the expansion of broadband internet services to numerous rural parts in the United States.
- Schumer clarified that the $3.5 trillion agreement that must be supported by the 50-member Senate Democratic members would include a major expansion of the Medicare health program for elderly people.
The Medicare expansion will cover dental, hearing, and vision health care services.
