Employment in the United States private sector grew by 692,000 jobs in June, driven mainly by leisure and hospitality businesses that reopened across the country.
- The biggest increase in additional workers was recorded in large businesses which added 240,000, followed by medium businesses which grew by 236,000, and small businesses with 215,000.
- In terms of sectors, service-providing industries added 624,000. Most of the gains came from leisure and hospitality with 332,000, while businesses related to information lost 4,000.
- Goods-producing firms added 68,000 workers for the month. Growth was mostly in construction with 47,000, followed by manufacturing with 19,000 and natural resources and mining with 2,000.
- Year-to-date job gains have totaled about 3 million, but payrolls remain 7 million short of levels prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The May total jobs added was revised upward to 978,000 from 886,000.
