9.3 million job openings were recorded in April as the economy quickly recovered from Covid – 19 pandemic.
- March expectation was a high of 8.3 million openings last witnessed in 2000, and JOLT’s prediction was 8.18 million in April.
- Leisure and hospitality industry jobs availability rose to 32.7%, even as the sectors were worst hit by the pandemic.
- Increased openings show difficulty for firms to fill positions. JOLTS data shows resignations are on the rise depicting employees’ ease in finding new jobs.
Separations rose to 5.76 million, up by 324,000, raising the rate to 4% from 3.8% as discharges and layoffs decreased by 1%.
