Trade sales and shipments climbed in January, along with the slight increase recorded in inventories during the period.
- The seasonally adjusted cumulative distributive trade sales and manufacturers’ shipments stood at $1.784 trillion in January. This marks a 3.7% growth from December 2021 and is 15.5% higher than the same period last year.
- Seasonally adjusted manufacturers’ and trade inventories for the month were estimated at $2.237 trillion, reflecting a 1.1% growth from December 2021 and an 11.4% increase from the same month in 2021.
- The latest business inventories reading reflects a slowdown from the 2.4% growth in December when the total inventories of manufacturers and trade inventories were recorded at $2.213 trillion.
The total business inventories/sales ratio for January stood at 1.25, down from the 1.30 ratio in January 2021.
