The U.K. stock market concluded on a negative note on Thursday, with the FTSE 100 Index dropping 0.27% to reach a closing level of 7,694.73.
Decreases in FTSE 100 Constituents
Among the FTSE 100 constituents, Burberry Group PLC saw the largest decrease as its shares fell by 4.19%. Similarly, shares of food retail firm Ocado Group PLC and company Severn Trent PLC also saw declines of 4.03% and 1.61% respectively.
Admiral Group PLC, a non-life insurance company, and United Utilities Group PLC rounded out the top five largest decreases as their stocks declined by 1.51% and 1.47% respectively.
Increase in Vodafone Group PLC
On the positive side, Vodafone Group PLC, a wireless telecommunications services company, witnessed the largest increase among FTSE 100 constituents, with its shares rising by 2.25% on Thursday.
Additionally, general mining firm BHP Group Ltd. and building materials/products company Melrose Industries PLC experienced gains of 1.06% and 0.78% respectively.
Anglo American PLC, a general mining company, and defense equipment/products business BAE Systems PLC rounded out the top five largest increases as their stocks rallied by 0.63% and 0.60% respectively.
Currency and Commodity Market Updates
The pound showed strength against the dollar, rising by 0.22% to reach $1.2667. However, it experienced a decline of 0.19% against the euro, reaching €1.1527.
In the commodities market, Brent crude fell by 1.1% to $78.86. Meanwhile, the yield on the 10-year gilt rose by 0.610 basis points to reach 3.531%.
