Excelsior Review: Is It a Good EA to Buy In 2022?

Excelsior is an expert advisor that works with neural networks, so it may trade differently on different account types and behave uniquely with various brokers. The developer says that long-term trading data for 3 to 4 months are the same by drawdown, recovery factor, Sharpe ratio, and other parameters. He further states that the advisor trades with all defaults, but to get optimal profitability, you need to optimize several parameters.

The vendor of this expert advisor is Evgeniy Scherbina. There is no other important info about him other than he is from Russia and that he’s the creator of other trading systems. Neural Bar Predictor, NewsCatcher Visual, My Big Bars, High Trend, and TradeKeeper Lite are some of the tools you will find Evgeniy selling on the MQL5 website.

You can get Excelsior at a one-time price of $385. This price is high and above the average cost of most EAs sold in this market. A money-back guarantee isn’t featured in the package.

    Key features

This robot comes with the following features:

    • It’s fully automated.
    • The robot trades on 8 different symbols; USDCHF, AUDUSD, GBPUSD, NZDUSD, EURUSD, GBPCHF, USDCAD, and USDJPY.
    • The minimum deposit to work with is $250, but the vendor recommends that you use $1000.
    • It can work on a VPS and on any timeframe.
    • It’s compatible with other advisors and indicators.
    • The EA closes trades or sets a stop loss at the opening price based on its algorithm when the current trend changes.

    Excelsior trading approach

The developer says that this software employs two independent recurrent neural networks to compute “buy” and “sell” signals. It carries out trades on both weekly and daily charts. So, it will open orders any time during the week while the weekly signal is still valid. The competition between the “buy” and “sell” signals on similar weekly bars are used to compute the weekly signal. The system will also initiate trades any time of the day whenever the daily signal is valid. A daily signal is computed for vital crossings of indicators on daily bars.

This account started with a deposit of $1000, and after the EA traded on 2018-2021 historical data, a total net profit of $31607209.44 was realized. The total trades finalized during this simulation period were 809. The subsequent win rates for short (96.22%) and long trades (96.36%) were really outstanding, and so was the profit factor—243.70. Low trading risks were applied, as evidenced by a drawdown of 17.54%.

This account ceased its operations on June 2, 2021, after the EA traded on it for 2 years and 8 months. At the time, it used to make a small monthly profit of 0.20%. In the end, a total gain of 3.65% was made. There was a small drawdown of 0.82%, which means that safe trading was applied. Other data values are hidden.

    Performance of trades
    Performance of trades

Going by the 11 trades executed during the entire trading period, it is obvious that the system was dormant a majority of the time. The long positions (57%) recorded poor win rates. All the short positions were won. The profit factor was 1.66 and a sign that the income generated from the deposit wasn’t substantial.

What are the risks with Excelsior?

The EA was able to generate low drawdowns during backtesting and in the real market, meaning that it traded safely at the time. However, it reduced the value of the live account after a few years of trading. As you will see in the next section, customers have confirmed that the system trades riskily.

    Worth noting!

A majority of the customers who have worked with this review are unsatisfied with it. The main message is that the robot doesn’t win and generates big drawdowns. Yet, there are others who feel that the EA works just fine.

What are the pros & cons of investing in Excelsior?

    Pros Cons
Backtest results are provided High risk of ruin

    Excelsior Conclusion

    38% Summary

Although the backtest report portrays Excelsior as a safe trading tool, we have realized that it can increase a live account’s risk of ruin within a few years of trading. Customers have also complained about the big drawdowns produced. Moreover, the EA can stay for long periods without initiating a trade. Anyway, the system supports multiple currency pairs, and the vendor explains how it works.
