FDA Warns of Serious Infections from Over-the-Counter Eye Drops

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded its list of over-the-counter eye drops that could potentially lead to serious infections. Walmart products have recently been added to the list, joining brands such as CVS Health, Target, and Rite Aid.

According to the FDA, unsanitary conditions in the manufacturing facility of these eye drops have been found, posing a risk of infections that could result in partial vision loss or blindness. As a precautionary measure, the FDA advises consumers to immediately stop using these products and urges the manufacturer to recall all affected lots.

    The affected brands include:

    • CVS Health
    • Leader (Cardinal Health)
    • Rugby (Cardinal Health)
    • Rite Aid
    • Target Up & Up
    • Velocity Pharma

In addition to the existing brands, Walmart has been included in the FDA’s warning. Shoppers are advised to avoid using the 10-milliliter Equate Hydration PF Lubricant Eye Drops from Walmart.

If anyone experiences signs or symptoms of an eye infection after using these products—such as pain, burning, light sensitivity, or abnormal discharge—they should seek medical attention promptly.

Here is the complete list of eye drops that the FDA advises against using, categorized by the respective store brand:
